On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, an engaging roundtable discussion focused on the global book market for children and young adult literature took place. Co-organized by Iran’s Cultural Association of Children and Youth Book Publishers (CACBP) and Saba Agency, this event brought together a diverse group of creators and publishing professionals eager to explore the challenges and opportunities of entering international markets.
The roundtable was structured in two insightful parts. The first segment featured a panel of experienced individuals, including authors Mohammedreza Yousefi and Mozhgan Moshtaq, illustrators Alireza Goldouzian and Atefa Malekijou, and Samein Nabipour from Ofoq Publishing. Each panelist shared valuable insights from their own journeys, shedding light on the intricate landscape of the global children’s book market.
The discussion covered a variety of critical topics. Participants delved into the complexities of producing content that resonates with audiences worldwide, emphasizing the importance of tailoring both text and illustrations to suit diverse cultures and preferences. They also touched upon the vital need to understand global market dynamics and effective ways to collaborate with foreign publishers. Furthermore, the roundtable highlighted emerging trends within the children’s and young adult literature sector, discussing how to navigate international exhibitions and maximize visibility at these events. Participants exchanged thoughts on the economic aspects of rights exchange and acknowledged the growing role of literary agencies in facilitating the introduction of Iranian works to foreign markets.
As the meeting concluded, it became clear that while the path to entering the global book market can be fraught with challenges, the potential rewards for children and young adult creators are immense.
